A Conversation with Macedo

Ballad had the chance to sit down and chat with the wonderful and super creative Ladies of Macedo. Michelle and Melissa are twins with a nostalgic sound, inspired by their father who was also a musician. Macedo has a new single out June 27th “Optimistic” and the song and video are a nod to the past, with a very modern and unique fun sound. The ladies finished each other's sentences and thoughts so I'll credit both of them with the answers. Enjoy this quick read and check them out on their socials and link to their new video for “Optimistic” listed below.

What initially drew you towards creating music?
Michelle and Melisa: Our father was a musician as well as his whole side of the family, music was always in our house and we grew up just listening to everything Abba and Donna Summer were on all the time . Our father was truly our biggest inspiration.

How has your sound evolved?

M/M: Before covid we were working on new music but it just seemed dark. Then covid came along and those songs were just depressing and no longer worked for us. We just wanted something to uplift people as well as ourselves. So we started writing new music that felt better to us with much more upbeat and that people could dance to.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face in the music industry today?

M/M: We were fortune signing to an independent label, it gives us the freedom to release anything we wanted and gives us the chance to experiment.

What advice would you give to musicians just starting out?

M/M: Work and create your own music that you feel proud of and represents you. Just keep practicing and perfecting your craft, and gaining a skill set.

Any memorable performances?

M/M: Mercury Lounge in NYC, it was our first concert in NYC and we didn't know what to expect but the crowd was electric and it really fed into the performance, and made for a memorable night.

Outside of music is there anything you two are working on?

M/M: (laughter) Were working on a horror film as the leads but also working on the score of the film. Melisa plays the doppelganger murderer to Michelle's character. The movie is called “Thinestra” and is due in the fall.

Now the important question, red or green salsa?

M/M: Gotta go with the classic red restaurant style salsa!
