The Strumbellas

The Strumbellas, no matter what you call them—alternative, folk, pop, with a dash of modern country (I hear it, don't care what you say)—whatever their sound is, it's a good time. I arrive at shows early to familiarize myself with the photo pit and to get a feel for the crowd. I must say, I really liked The Strumbellas' fans. It was one of the few times I've heard fans not use other bands to describe The Strumbellas' sound.

Now, I must admit they were not a part of my playlist, and I went in with fresh ears. I must have been the only person at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix who didn't know the words to every song. They were the palate cleanser my ears didn't know they needed. With their catchy melodies and unmatched musicianship, I, too, was engulfed in their music and blended right in with longtime fans. "Hold Me" and "Steal My Soul" are my personal favorites from the new album "Part-Time Believer". With lyrics like “running from the devil down a dead-end road," The Strumbellas know we're all going through something, and they have, too. I didn't attend the concert as a Strumbellas fan, but I left as one, with a little pep in my step and a Strumbellas melody stuck in my head.

The Strumbellas are currently on tour in support of their album "Part-Time Believer" and consist of Dave Ritter (keys), Jon Hembrey (guitar), Isabel Ritchie (violin), Darryl James (bass), Miles Gibson (drums), and Jimmy Chauveau (vocals). Check out upcoming dates on thestrumbellas.ca and follow them @thestrumbellas.
